“No longer is the fixed desk and working hours of nine to five the norm, and as communications become increasingly flexible, so do working practices. Remote working has doubled in the last eight years, and is set to double again in the next four. The office of the future will no longer be a fixed location, and will instead require the ability to work seamlessly from any location, with access to the same information and services that traditionally have only been achieved at the desktop. Mobility solutions can deliver increased business productivity, reduce support costs, increase the ability for staff to deliver, and develop the integration between suppliers and customers.
Telindus services include Virtual Private Networks (VPN), using existing and emerging technologies as the foundation, combined with managed authentication to deliver enhanced security, remote connectivity, and remote access devices and management. Also included is the development and delivery of remote applications and user interfaces based on business requirements. The need for Mobility permeates all sectors, and Telindus has implemented solutions across health, education, local government, academia and media.”
An example of mobility at local government level is at Newcastle City Council, where Telindus implemented Wireless LAN to bring mobility and security. As a continuously expanding institution with large amounts of confidential information on its IT system, Newcastle City Council identified the need for a more efficient and robust wireless network infrastructure that addressed its needs for security and mobility while reducing administration complexities.
Telindus proposed a multi-layered wireless environment based on the Trapeze Networks’ Mobility SystemTM. The system delivers a combination of strong authentication and encryption, identity based networking and integrated planning and verification, allowing staff mobility, secure access and deployment and management capabilities for ongoing maintenance of the WLAN.
The project has provided wireless access to all council staff, and given Internet access to visitors to the authority via wireless hotspots, without using the Council’s secure network. The WLAN is also used across the main council offices to facilitate a flexible working environment. This has significantly increased productivity as staff are no longer restricted by office boundaries and are able to fully utilise the mobility provided by the WLAN.
