Even at a young age Mallory has become a force to be reckoned with. She began paddling at just five years of age and started competing in Canoe Slalom. Canoe Slalom is a demanding sport; where the aim is to quickly run a rapid river course, marked by “gates”, without touching them. Over the years Mallory has steadily progressed through the UK National Rankings to become the youngest ever female to gain promotion to the Premier Division at the age 12.
ramsac is providing Mallory with financial sponsorship to help with the significant costs of travel to attend championships. Despite competing for a senior team, as a junior Mallory is not eligible for the same levels of funding as her elder counterparts and had to rely on parental support to compete.
The years of training have come together, with Mallory recently competing against the seniors of her sport in the finals of the World Cups races, where she achieved an overall ranking of ninth place. This achievement is even more impressive when taking into account that many of her competitors train virtually full time, whilst Mallory has been at school recently completing ten GCSE’s.
Only this month, Mallory came fifth in the Junior World Championships at Foix in France, which was televised live on French television and webcast around the world.
Paul Mew, Technical Director at ramsac, has been impressed with her performance, “Mallory’s hard work and determination has really paid off and ramsac is looking forward to supporting her.” At ramsac Paul oversees a team that provides the full IT support function for clients, which range from SMEs to larger enterprises, schools and charities.
Mallory’s next races are the Junior European Championships in Leipzig, Germany on the 4th-7th August and then the Senior European Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia on the 10th-12th September, which is due to be televised on the BBC.
Although currently standing at 10th in the world, Mallory does not plan to forgo her education. Instead she hopes to start studying for a BTEC in Sports and Exercise Science in September. Mallory’s aim is to eventually read for a degree in Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Wales in Cardiff while continuing to pursue a doubtlessly successful future career in canoeing, with her ultimate goal being a medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Ramsac is also a proud sponsor of the Guildford Heat Basketball Club. As well as sponsoring the team, which won the British Basketball League (BBL) in 2007 and were the runners up in 2008, ramsac also provides ongoing IT support for the club at its Guildford headquarters.
