Chain of disaster caused by Comment’s demise continues

Mobile distributors have been hit by the collapse of Comment Retail Services as money owed has failed to materialise.

Fone Logistics is among the businesses left waiting for payment from Comment, which went into administration last week.

Fone Logistics is owed around £450,000. A spokesperson for Fone Logistics told Mobile Business that the deal with Comment was underwritten by the distributor’s credit insurance, so the business will remain unaffected by Comment’s collapse.

While the Fone Logistics spokesperson was unable to comment on specifics, they said: “I’d imagine Comment also had relationships with all the major distributors.”

Comment was pushed to the brink by its main client, Woolworths, which was declared bankrupt in late November. Woolworth’s is primed for a closing down sale within days as Deloitte, its administrator, has failed to buy a buyer for all or parts of the company.

While talks for Woolies are still continuing, the closing down sale is putting a dampener on a new owner being found in time.
