Chess recently hosted their own “Eco-day” to celebrate their re-accreditation of the Environmental Standard ISO 14001 and to further educate their people of the importance of working and living in an eco-friendly environment.
Chess have been passionate about developing environmentally sustainable practices for many years. Chess’ environmental responsibility is largely thanks to its Green Team – a panel of self-appointed ‘Eco-ambassadors’ from all areas of the business. The Green Team meets monthly to develop new initiatives and drive them throughout the organisation. Since its Green Team was established, Chess has increased recycling by 100%, reduced costs by becoming energy efficient and saves over 3 tonnes of paper every year through promotion of web based billing.

Chess’ Eco-day involved competitions and incentives rewarding those who participated in green themed activities and games, including a healthy eco breakfast for anyone who walked, biked or ran to work, a week’s use of the Chess smart car and free annual parking passes for car sharers.
