Cisco WiFi to be built in to Intel Centrino

Intel has announced that its forthcoming WiFi Centrino chips would support the latest version of Cisco Compatible Extensions. This will ensure Intel-based enterprise devices would be interoperable with Cisco Systems WiFi access point.

Intel is the first vendor to achieve Cisco Compatible Extensions 4.0 certification, with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. Cisco's Compatible Extensions program sets criteria so that client devices are designed to be interoperable with a Cisco WLAN infrastructure.

The Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection with Cisco support would be available in the next version of Intel Centrino, available in early 2006.
