Executel is King of the Castle

North East communications firm Executel is celebrating the completion of a complex £50,000 installation project within one of the region’s most famous historic landmarks.

Land and property owner Northumberland Estates has invested in state-of-the-art voice and data technology and called upon Gateshead-based Executel to equip its premises in Alnwick Castle with a fully integrated IP communications infrastructure to replace outdated technology and serve some 125 extensions. This in turn has streamlined operations for the organisation, aided more efficient call-handling and ultimately benefited service delivery as a whole.

Northumberland Estates is responsible for over 120,000 acres of land in Northumberland, Surrey, Middlesex and Scotland and 6,000 acres of woodland. In addition, the company owns around 170 tenanted farms and a large number of houses and holiday cottages in 13 villages.

Of the technology upgrade, Rodney Kelly, IT manager for the company, said: “A telecoms system overhaul was long overdue, and with Executel and their Mitel PABX solution I’m confident I have a reliable system and an excellent service team to back us up. I’m looking forward to working with Executel for a good many years.”

Marcus Ayres, account manager for Executel added: “This was a somewhat challenging project for us due to the fact that we were working within an historic and protected environment. Conserving the original qualities of the castle was obviously of utmost importance and therefore careful planning and execution of the installation was required.

“We have however a wealth of experience with historic buildings and challenging environments and have therefore successfully delivered a complete solution that is greatly assisting the smooth and efficient running of operations.

“Alnwick Castle now boasts a combination of Medieval surroundings alongside 21st century technology and we are delighted to have contributed to this unique formula.”

Established in 1997, Executel is currently the premier supplier of voice and data solutions in the North East of England. The firm employs a 38-strong workforce at its Metro Centre base and last year achieved revenues in excess of £7.5m.
