Huawei’s femto steps into mass market for the first time

Huawei Technologies, provider of next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has formally announced the availability of its femto product for mass market deployment, following its successful demonstration at the Femtocell World Summit in London, UK.

Huawei' s Femtocell2.0, which received 2009 Germany iF Design Award and 2009 Germany Red Dot Design Award, is a portable wireless access device that connects 3G mobile handsets directly to a standard broadband DSL or cable service, providing enhanced mobile voice and data coverage in the home environment.

Said Jiang Wangcheng, president of the Huawei UMTS product line: “It sets a new benchmark in terms of quality, reliability, intuitive use, and new generation design which ensures end user acceptance at home.

Enabling femto for the mass market is a key challenge being faced by all operators. Operators have concerns on technical aspects, end user acceptance and business model issues. Huawei’s femtocell solution, and the femto product for mass market, is technically ready, moulds into the end user environment and is a cost saving tool which is expected to assist the uptake of mobile broadband."
