Industry-led IT Forum Tackles BYOD Trend

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with business communications specialists, Pennine Telecom, to host a series of forums looking at the issues currently impacting the IT and digital landscape.

Designed specifically for senior IT personnel, the first forum, taking place on 6th March, will focus on the increasingly popular topic of ‘Bring your own device’ (BYOD). An expert panel has been assembled to talk about their experiences of BYOD network implementation, and to provide advice and guidance in introducing user policies.

Confirmed panellists include Richard Absalom from technology analysts, Ovum, who is an expert in the field of mobile consumerisation, and Andrew Fowler from mobile cloud technology specialists, Citrix, who will be discussing how they implemented their own BYOD in-house policy.

Andrew Roberts, Managing Director of Pennine Telecom, which is partnering the Chamber in the delivery of the forums, said:

“Technology is becoming an increasingly significant part of people’s lives and there is a natural crossover occurring, with many employees using their own personal tablets and smartphones in the workplace. There is a growing need for IT directors to be aware of the implications and problems associated with BYOD, as well as some of the many benefits and we’ll be looking at the topic from all angles with invaluable insights and advice from the panellists.”

Commenting on the forums, Michelle Geoghegan, Policy Manager at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said:

“This is the first in a series of IT Directors Forums scheduled to take place throughout the year. The aim of the events is to enable senior IT executives to network with their peers and discuss common issues impacting the industry. We’re looking forward to hearing a wide range of views and experiences, and, as these events are industry-led, may well take some of the discussion points forward to future forums.”
