deCarta, the supplier of software and services for the location based services (LBS) industry, has announced the appointment of Brian MacDonald as Vice President, Mobile Business Development.

MacDonald will head up deCarta's global mobile business development operations with a dedicated team focused on strategic partnerships with mobile operators.

MacDonald joins deCarta from mywaves where he was VP, Worldwide Sales and Distribution, selling video content and mobile advertising to mobile operators ¬– directly, and through, OEM channels. Prior to joining mywaves, MacDonald was VP, Carrier Sales, at Danger and responsible for the deal with T-Mobile US that launched the highly successful T-Mobile Sidekick consumer handset.

Danger was acquired by Microsoft in 2008. He has also held executive roles at Netcom and iPass focusing on marketing and sales of data services to major international operators. Earlier, MacDonald spent several years in management consulting with European mobile operators at BMS (now Cap Gemini) and later as CEO of his own UK-based software company, which he later sold to Lotus/IBM.

“I’m excited to be joining deCarta just as mobile operators are beginning to invest significantly in location-based services”, said MacDonald. “deCarta is uniquely positioned to enable operators to launch a range of stunning new services, thereby extending their brands and protecting their customers from encroachment.”

J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta said: "We’re delighted to have someone of Brian’s caliber and experience head up our business interests with mobile operators. This further underscores deCarta’s commitment to helping operators deploy the most comprehensive and competitive set of mobile local search and navigation services available in the market.”
