In September, Google overtook Yahoo to have the shortest download time of all mobile sites according to the latest Keynote Systems Mobile Performance Index.

Google was also the only site to download in less than five seconds, with a time of 4.63 seconds, the company stated. Facebook and BBC followed in second and third position respectively.

Google ensured its dominance in mobile by also coming out the winner in the availability category. Yahoo suffered a huge blow and came last with an availability of 94.35%, compared to Google’s 98.47, said Keynote Systems.

Eurosports took the top spot in the download speed category at 3,614 bytes per second. Also, Ebay and Time followed, but both had download speeds below 3,000 bytes per second.

“Google has made huge improvements to their mobile site so that it not only downloads quickly, but is also most reliable,” commented Nisheeth Mohan, product manager for mobile at Keynote Systems.
