Medium acquires Beyondis

UK AV trade-only distributor Medium (UK) Ltd has acquired the majority of the share capital in Beyondis Ltd, with a view to further expanding into the videoconferencing market. Beyondis - a high-tech focused distributor dedicated predominantly to VC - will become a trading division of Medium.

Medium's acquisition strategy focuses on finding companies that will create additional synergy, have positive cash-flow and strong growth potential.

Ian Sempers, Medium's MD explains: 'Medium has in the past offered VC to its resellers, but we haven't been very active in this area for the past couple of years. We see VC as an area of growth and we want to become a significant player in this market.'

Medium and Beyondis have had a good partner relationship since last year. Sempers added: 'Beyondis has the LifeSize distribution contract plus some high-end, add-on products which makes it the ideal partner to complement our product range and offerings.'

Beyondis was formed in 2007 by Kris Davies, who has been in the AV industry for several years working for the likes of Steljes, RGB and also heading up Convergent, the hi-tech arm of Maverick.

Davies says that the deal with Medium will allow Beyondis to reach further into emerging markets as well as open new opportunities in the traditional markets, where Medium is well established.

'I decided that Medium is the right company for us because it has a great understanding of what is required to make VC a success.' says Davies , 'Medium's strength is on its reseller structure and its highly qualified field sales representatives, who know their products inside out.'

Talking about Logitech and LifeSize announced deal, Sempres commented: ' Logitech investment in Lifesize is excellent news. It's evident that Logitech believes strongly in the future of video communications and it is prepared to commit a lot of money to it. This is a great endorsement for those of us involved in video as well as those involved selling Lifesize equipment.'

Medium's close working relationship with resellers, paired with the training and support that Beyondis' will provide within the VC area, will empower partners to offer true end to end collaboration solutions.

Besides the education, corporate and public services areas, the new VC arm of Medium will be looking at working with telecoms and IT companies that want to complement their offering by adding video for unified communications.
