Mi-Pay data centre goes green

Mobile money company, Mi-Pay, is now certified by the International Tree Foundation (ITF), a UK-based tree charity that has been planting, protecting and promoting trees in the UK and Overseas for over 80 years, as part of a carbon emission offsetting initiative sponsored by its hosting services provider, Rackspace

Mi-Pay’s centralised data centre is now effectively carbon neutral, reflecting Mi-Pay’s good citizenship and its customers’ increasing desire for environmentally conscious solutions.

Norman Frankel, CEO of Mi-Pay stated: “While the economic recession is hitting consumers hard, environmental concerns show no sign of flagging. Mobile operators and banks are eager to improve their eco-credentials in order to secure customer bases, particularly in highly competitive developed markets. Working with Mi-Pay, they can now ensure their prepaid top up, mobile payments and remittance services are being delivered with minimal environmental impact.”

Established to meet increased global demand for Mi-Pay’s indemnified mobile top up and mobile money remittance services, the data facility supports many international clients including leading retailers, financial institutions and agents across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Frankel added: “Many of the mobile banking solutions delivered by Mi-Pay’s data centre are helping to transform societies and economies in rural and remote populations across the world. Consequently, there has always been a strong ethical drive within the Mi-Pay team. By going green we are eager to make our operations more sustainable for the future. We see this as part of a longer term commitment which will benefit not just our local environment but also help boost the reputation of our customers in other parts of the world.”

Mi-Pay is supported by Rackspace, one of the world’s top green hosted services suppliers. Rackspace is a corporate sponsor of ITF.
