Mobey Forum reaches landmark

Networks & Network Services
Mobey Forum, the organisation involved in defining a sustainable and prosperous mobile financial services ecosystem, has announced that it has reached the impressive milestone of its members now collectively representing more than 450 million banking customers globally. The association attributes increasing membership enquiries to the market’s growing desire to deliver mobile financial services to end users.

Currently celebrating its ten year anniversary, Mobey Forum has recently welcomed a number of new members including EDB Business Partner Norway, Garanti Bank and Luup. Working alongside leading financial institutions, mobile network operators, mobile handset manufacturers, payment processors and vendors, the new members will engage in the promotion of open and secure technology standards to accelerate the mass-market deployment of user-friendly mobile financial services.

Ron van Wezel, Chairman of Mobey Forum and Director of Emerging Payment Streams at Deutsche Bank, commented: “Having Mobey Forum’s member base represent more than 450 million banking customers globally is a real testament to the organisation’s success and demonstrates the increasing relevance of mobile financial services in today’s economic landscape.

“Since our inception, Mobey Forum has created an environment that encourages debate, information sharing and produces best practice recommendations to assist the mobile and banking communities in bringing convenient and pioneering services to customers. As market trials gain momentum and business models are established, our role within this ecosystem has never been more vital.”

Wezel highlights that the forum’s work would not be possible without the resource commitment from members, which represents approximately 25% of the global banking community, adding: “The need to promote an open infrastructure to avoid market fragmentation and improve interoperability is key. It is thanks to the efforts of our members and their willingness to share information and engage in cross-industry collaborations that is enabling Mobey Forum to become known as the key source of independent insight within this landscape. We look forward to the important and timely contributions of our latest members.”
