Russell Wins NEC Infrontia Award

North East based Russell Telecom has become the first company in Europe to be awarded a prestigious accolade for its technical excellence by NEC Infrontia.

Russell Telecom received the award for its forward-thinking approach to new technologies like Voice over IP, and its success in growing the market for cutting edge technology, including advanced IP systems, across the UK.

The reseller was the first independent telecoms company in the north of England to be set up following the de-regulation of the telecoms market in 1984. As well as strong links with NEC, from whom it sources market leading telephony, it has partnerships with other telecoms vendors such as Toshiba.

The company was singled out to receive the Technical Award for Excellence in recognition of its success in promoting IP telephony to a much wider market.

Andrew Cooper, sales director at NEC Infrontia, said: “Russell Telecom has committed huge resources of time and capital to acquire an outstanding level of technical expertise. We are moving at an accelerating rate to a world of converged communications. Technologies such as Voice over Internet Protocol and Session Initiation Protocol mean that communication will rely on the Internet rather than old fashioned copper wire. It’s essential that those who implement them have proven expertise. Russell Telecom qualifies on every count. The company is a fitting choice to receive our first award. Its commitment to technical excellence is, quite simply, great news for all its customers.”

Lawrence McCaughey, joint managing director at Russell Telecom, said: “We have built a reputation for being the best at what we do. A vital factor in our success has been our relationship with NEC Infrontia which is, quite clearly, the best at what it does.”

Russell Telecom is a growing company with 40 employees based at its headquarters at the prestigious Watermark development at Metro Riverside in Gateshead and a second office in Batley, West Yorkshire. It specializes in the sales, installation and maintenance of telecoms systems for a wide variety of companies ranging from Durham County Council to Bannatyne’s Health Clubs.
