Samsung appoints new MD for UK and Ireland

Samsung has announced the appointment of a new managing director, Andrew Griffiths, to lead the Samsung business in the UK and Ireland.

In his new role, Andrew will head up the Samsung UK and Ireland team which spans all three business groups: Consumer Electronics, Mobile and IT.

Andrew has over 20 years’ experience in the industry, including 6 years with Samsung. This stands him in good stead to develop Samsung’s business strategy and continue to successfully grow the business in the UK.

Previous roles include Vice President of Consumer Electronics at Samsung UK and Ireland, overseeing all activities across a broad portfolio of consumer electronic devices including TVs, Blu-ray players, domestic appliances and cameras. In addition, he has overseen several high profile launches and campaigns in the UK, including Samsung’s award-winning LED 3D TV and Smart TV.

Prior to becoming Vice President of Consumer Electronics, Samsung UK and Ireland, Andrew worked for over a decade in a senior role at Sony.

Andrew will be working closely with Mr. Kim, Deputy Managing Director, Samsung UK and Ireland. This will be a new role for the UK and Ireland business.

Mr. David Song, the current Managing Director, Samsung UK and Ireland, will leave the Samsung UK and Ireland business to take a global role as Head of Global PC Sales & Marketing at Samsung’s PC Business.

Mr Song has been in the role since February 2010 and during this time has overseen all activities surrounding a broad portfolio of devices including, mobile phones, TV’s, Blu-ray players, white goods, notebooks, monitors, print and cameras. In addition, he has overseen several high profile launches and campaigns in the UK including Samsung’s award-winning Galaxy S II phone.

Robert King will step up from his current role as Sales Director, Consumer Electronics, Samsung UK and Ireland to become Head of Consumer Electronics.

The Mobile business group in the UK will be renamed Telecommunications & Networks as it will now include the Networks business. It will continue to be headed up by Simon Stanford.

Graham Long, Vice President, IT, Samsung UK and Ireland will continue to head up and manage the IT business including PC, Display and Print. Graham will also take responsibility for managing Samsung’s B2B sales operation including strategy and planning.
