Sony Ericsson goes mass market for winter

Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of three new Walkman phones and next generation music accessories to hit the shops in the forth quarter.

The Christmas launch is hoped to be a mass market money spinner for the troubled manufacturer, that stands accused of neglecting the lower end of the handset market and suffering financially because of it.

Sony Ericsson’s three additions to the Walkman phone family are the W902, W595 and W302, plus seven new music accessories. The company claimed the devices have superior sound quality and pioneering features that take Walkman phones beyond previous levels, including imaging and video capabilities.

Ben Padley, head of the music category at Sony Ericsson, said: “With this latest range of phones and accessories, we are offering high quality sound and a rich feature set. We are pushing the boundaries of what people think is possible and are offering best in class sound quality and our most exciting Walkman phones to date.”

The launch coincides with the Walkman phone’s third birthday.
