SpiriTel 15 Peaks Challenge

On July 3rd, a team of 6 brave volunteers from SpiriTel Plc took on one of the toughest charity events in the UK, The 15 Peaks Challenge, in aid of the company’s nominated charity, HOPEHIV. The challenge required a great deal of grit and determination, as participants have just 24 hours in which to cover 15 of the highest peaks in the Snowdonia National Park.

This is an extremely tough challenge for even the most seasoned of hikers. The SpiriTel team covered 8 of the highest 3000+ ft mountains on the course – 2/3 of the challenge in terms of distance – in around 15 hours, before narrowly missing the cut off time for the final check point. Naturally, the team was disappointed not to finish, but having covered a total of 20 out of the 30 miles, with 10,500 ft of ascent and 10,000ft of descent, on their first attempt at the challenge there is plenty to be proud of too!

Jonny Shanmuganathan, MD SpiriTel Technologies, said: “It was an amazing experience for all of us – the challenge was monumental: it was a race after all, and lived up to the bill as one of the toughest walking challenges in the UK. I don’t think any of us truly realised how big it was. We gave it a really good go, and most of us can’t wait to try again next year! The chairman of HOPEHIV also took part in the event, and hearing his stories about some of the projects funded by HOPEHIV in Africa really brought home how important our donations are in the fight against AIDS, and the rebuilding of kids lives after they lose their parents to that terrible disease.”

So far the team have raised an impressive £7,090. To show your support for the heroic efforts of the SpiriTel team, and for the tireless hard work of HOPEHIV, please log on to www.justgiving.com/spiritel-plc to make a donation. Collection of donations will close on 31st August 2010.
