St John Ambulance enhance IT network

Networks & Network Services
St John Ambulance, the nation’s leading first aid charity, has chosen Timico to provide a resilient and comprehensive Private Wide Area Network (PWAN) solution to further strengthen connectivity between its National Headquarters in London and almost fifty regional offices, located across England.

Timico’s fully managed PWAN included a total of twelve leased lines on either 100Mb or 1Gb bearers, with a 100Mb point-to-point connection between the organisation’s headquarters and National Distribution Centre, which resources and distributes over 6,000 products throughout SJA and to businesses in the UK and overseas. Timico also provided a central internet breakout with two 100Mb ports, protected by firewalls, to give St John Ambulance a high availability cluster.

“We were in the process of reviewing our existing Wide Area Network (WAN) when we first met Timico at The Charities Consortium IT Directors Group. They immediately impressed us with their professional, honest and upfront approach, and how they were able to provide exactly the solutions we were looking for. This included a fully managed PWAN incorporating new technology that would allow us to increase bandwidth and security within our network and bring significant cost savings,” says Karl Heydenrych, IT Director at St John Ambulance.

The features associated with Timico’s PWAN solution which St John Ambulance now benefits from include IP VPN connectivity, centrally hosted and managed resilient firewalls, proactive network monitoring and reporting, and 24/7 technical support.

“We chose Timico as our network partner because they were not only competitive in their pricing, but also highly innovative in the solution they proposed. They understood our requirements straightaway and took a collaborative approach to working with us, which we appreciated. Timico's network solutions are much more dynamic and flexible compared to those we have experienced with other suppliers, proven by our IT network now being able to deliver Next Generation capabilities. Timico’s project management team and support personnel ensured their implementation work was carried out on time and on budget. I would have no hesitation in recommending Timico to any other charitable organisation looking to take on a similar implementation to ours,” concludes Karl Heydenrych.
