Star Launches Email Archiving Service

Star, a provider of on-demand computing and communication services for UK businesses has announced the launch of a new, on-demand email archiving service, VitalMail

The new service provides a secure, scalable and unlimited storage environment that removes the need for on-site archiving hardware and software. VitalMail is available for any UK business running Microsoft Exchange and provides compliant, unlimited archiving without the risk and management costs associated with on-premise alternatives. Costs for the service start at around £4 per user, per month for unlimited storage, with no set-up charges.

The company says that with email traffic expected to grow to 507 billion messages a day by 2013, VitalMail is a cost-effective way of addressing the issue of mailbox management. The service combines unlimited storage and retention of emails, with quick and easy end-user search and retrieval functionality. This ensures that organisations that need to retrieve emails, should they be required to, for legal discovery, regulatory or compliance purposes can do so with rapid on-demand access. Without a central archive, email retrieval can be a challenge and 58% of email managers in a recent survey have identified this as a key issue in their role. With VitalMail, the administrator can also compile reports on a weekly or daily basis to comply with policy enforcement.

As it is a hosted service, end-users benefit from the highest levels of security, uptime guarantees and reliability. For complete resilience, all internal and external emails and attachments sent from a mail server are stored in a secure and redundant email repository. Administrative settings such as retention policies and permissions for groups and individuals can all be controlled through the MyStar customer portal.

Martino Corbelli, Marketing Director of Star comments, “With email volumes growing continually it’s no wonder that the issue of how to store and retrieve unstructured data has become a real challenge for many small and medium sized UK businesses. Many laws and regulations now require the retention of email for extended periods of time, something which on-site email servers are not really designed for, and replicating them can be expensive. However, moving to an online service is also subject to the same regulation and compliance standards, often requiring the guarantee of data to be kept in UK-based data centres. Star can provide this peace of mind with only UK-based data centres and UK-based support as core elements of this service.”

Martino continues, “VitalMailTM provides a no compromise option for security and compliance and is a reliable, always-on and scalable archiving service with the benefit of predictable monthly costs. This is really about giving added assurance for UK businesses. Should you be legally required to produce emails for any reason, you want to know that you have a system in place that is tried, tested and managed around the clock by experts, which means that our customers are free to get on with the important task of running their businesses.”
