Telefónica launches commercial services across Latin America

Telefónica, global operator, and Huawei, a provider of next generation telecommunications network solutions worldwide, announced the fulfilment in the deployment of the new service delivery platform (SDP) that will serve all countries in Telefónica’s Latin American region.

In less than six months, and within the previewed schedule, the SDP has been deployed and the first commercial services have been launched.

This SDP project represents a key movement for Telefónica to pursue the mobile internet opportunities and the final business success. It is considered as one of the largest of its kind in terms of scale and complexity. It uses an advanced SOA and multi-national hierarchical networking architecture that covers Telefónica’s 13 subnets in Latin America.

During the implementation and delivery phase, Huawei was responsible for integrating various network equipments, including BSS systems from different vendors. Furthermore, Huawei also provides consultancy services covering business analysis; architecture design and service planning, highlighting the multiple added values Huawei can bring to operators.

Now with this platform, Telefónica has started the commercialisation of new solutions such as mobile advertising, messaging tools for the management of different email accounts, network storage and management of SMS, and mobile newspaper, plus more.

From now on, the SDP will allow Telefónica to provide at a regional level a complete portfolio of value-added convergent services, for different devices, as well as for mass market and enterprise markets, including small and medium-sized enterprises.

Besides, this platform will accelerate the time to market of new services and will reduce operational costs, thanks to reutilisation of resources and business management systems already integrated in the platform. Developers and software companies will have the possibility to use this solution to integrate their own services in a fast and unified way, facilitating the creation of an ecosystem for the development of services and innovation around the SDP.
