Thus Respond to C&W NGN Announcement

Network operator Thus has responded to yesterdays’ announcement by rival Cable & wireless that C&W had compled its new IP-based network in the UK. Thus say that while this is a positive achievement, C&W added the caveat that it is not experiencing the expected demand from corporates to be migrated to the new network.

“Thus has been operating its next-generation network (NGN) - a fully IP-based core network - for six years. During this period, demand for NGN services has grown steadily, and despite C&W's comments, is currently at an all-time high.

An astonishing 78% of Thus’ new contracts last year were for new wave services supplied to large corporates and public sector bodies including Archant, Manchester City Council and The Funding Corporation. The demand comes from across a wide range of sectors, demonstrating the flexibility of IP-based networks.”

Thus go on to add, “It is clear, therefore, that despite C&W's experiences, the market for NGN communications is already here and growing fast. Thus already has a substantial customer base fully migrated to its NGN, and is working to migrate even more of its legacy customers while it continues to deliver new wave services to new customers.”
