Travel at the Speed of Light With Nimans

Distributor Nimans is launching a series of engineering training workshops to dispel the fear factor of fibre optics installation. The day-long courses take place at Nimans’ Manchester headquarters on July 7th, 8th and 9th.

Nimans’ Installation Products Specialist, Geoff Wilde, says fibre optics already play a major role in global communications - even though installation can be a tricky process.

The courses are being run in partnership with leading manufacturer Austin Taylor and will focus on all aspects of fibre optic installation. “The objective is to introduce any engineer into the world of fibre, covering the basics of fibre cable through to termination and testing,” said Geoff.

Types of fibre, installation practices, splicing and connector types and panels are some of the areas being discussed.

Wilde concluded: “We want to provide a valuable insight into fibre optics for engineers who normally install Cat 5 or copper cables. For me there’s always been a bit of a fear factor with fibre. We want them to go away with the confidence and capabilities of terminating fibre cables.

“Fibre optics represents the future of communication, as data travels at the speed of light. There are many benefits over traditional methods; as distance is no object, there are higher bandwidths than copper and cables can be spliced together.”
