Tyco Integrated Systems Wins Pivotal CCTV Integration Contract

Tyco Integrated Systems has been awarded the contract to fulfil the CCTV and Video Surveillance integration requirements for the West Midlands region as part of a £26.6m scheme funded by the Department of Transport (DfT) to create a “Centre of Excellence”. The contract, which is valued at over £0.5m, will consist of design, manufacturing, supplying and commissioning of a new digital video surveillance control platform known as “Mosaic”.

The Mosaic system will provide a central video surveillance control and integration platform that will interconnect seven existing video surveillance systems throughout the West Midlands region. The project is spearheaded by Wolverhampton City Council as the lead authority who is purchasing the system and the associated Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) systems on behalf of six other participating regional authorities covering Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Coventry and Birmingham.

The new Tyco Mosaic system will offer video surveillance operators a new graphical front-end to facilitate camera selection and control. The system can be easily further expanded to include additional remote video surveillance systems or to provide digital recording capability simply with the addition of storage units.

A number of the towns and cities in the West Midlands currently operate separate traffic control centres from where traffic is monitored and traffic strategies are then adapted to minimise congestion or to suit specific local requirements.

Speaking of the project, Rob Taylor of Tyco said “Tyco Integrated Systems has been active in the development of UTMC/UTC compliant CCTV systems for many years now and the award of this contract is a major accolade and recognition of what we have achieved and we look forward to continuing our success and working alongside “Telent”, the Project Managers.”

The £26.6m scheme funded by the Department of Transport based at Quinton will provide integration of these individual UTMC systems to enable the sharing of information across regional boundaries.
