Valentines High School Chooses Toshiba For VoIP

Valentines High School in Ilford today announced it has chosen to upgrade its telephony solution to incorporate VoIP technology from Toshiba Business Communications Division (BCD). The Strata CIX platform will cost-effectively deliver improved communication both internally and externally, though features including individual voicemail for all 160 members of staff.

The need to update the current system arose when Valentines expanded its premises by building a new sixth form block. Working with Toshiba BCD Expert Partner Talking Technology, the decision was made to utilise the existing infrastructure whilst adding VoIP capabilities.

Rob Bennett, Deputy Headteacher, at Valentines High School, says: “There have been major developments in the telephony market since we installed our original system, so when we reached the extension capacity we decided to look at alternative solutions. We wanted a flexible solution to handle future changes and expansion, but one that would offer us a cost effective route to bringing new features online. The Strata CIX solution is perfect.”

Rob Bennett continues: “We are extremely happy with the new system, and find it very easy to use. The upgrades are easily managed by the IT manager. I have to say it was one of the smoothest projects I’ve ever been involved with!”

Valentines has installed a Toshiba Strata CIX 670 in the new building, with seven VoIP extensions. The remaining 70 extensions have been upgraded to digital handsets using the existing cabling network. The new system will integrate with the original analogue system to give the school a hybrid platform, based on existing cabling to reduce the implementation costs and process.

Daniel Fuller-Smith, Sales Manager for Toshiba BCD UK & EMEA, comments: “It is important to the education sector that telephony solutions are reliable and provide maximum investment protection. By building on their existing system and choosing a hybrid solution, Valentines can migrate to VoIP at a pace that it right for them, and still utilise the original analogue capabilities. This guarantees a maximum return on investment.”

In the future, Valentines plans to invest further Strata CIX features, such as call forwarding and text messaging facilities, and extend these benefits to parents and pupils. This is all part of the school’s ongoing commitment to improvement.
