Voneus Acquires Sky-Way

Voneus, the rural community broadband specialist, has acquired Sky-Way, the Herefordshire-headquartered wireless infrastructure installation company. The deal will enable Voneus to increase the rate at which it can roll out wireless broadband networks in rural communities across the UK, as well as boost its ability to deliver round-the-clock customer support.

Sky-Way is approved by both Broadband Development UK (BDUK) and the Welsh Government to install broadband infrastructure and has been a Voneus partner since 2016, helping to install the wireless infrastructure required to deliver Voneus’ range of superfast broadband services in hard-to-reach rural locations.

“Sky-Way has built a great reputation installing broadband infrastructure in places that the traditional networks don’t reach. The company has been an invaluable partner to us over the last two years, so we are delighted to welcome the Sky-Way team to Voneus permanently,” said Steve Leighton, CEO of Voneus. “This addition significantly bolsters our engineering capabilities which means shorter waiting times for villages eager to gain access to our broadband services, while the additional manpower will provide even better support coverage for our existing customers.”

This deal forms part of Voneus’ ongoing strategy to expand its superfast broadband network into rural communities across the UK. In June 2017, the company secured £5.3 million of funding to enable this expansion. Since then, it has acquired wireless internet service providers, Cotswold Wireless, SugarNet and Lde Smart Alarms.

“We have first-hand experience of working alongside Voneus; our common goal – to provide reliable, fast internet services to places that have traditionally been considered ‘off grid’ – means the two companies are a great fit,” said Sky-Way’s founder, Gareth Burgess. “Voneus’ ambitious growth plans make it a very exciting company to join.”
