FollowUs, which describes itself as the UK’s leading mobile phone mapping service, has launched a new service that allows WAP-enabled mobiles to locate the position of other mobiles through the FollowUs service.
FollowUs is an easy-to-use, permission based service that lets mobile users show where they are to a friend, family member or work colleague without the need for a phone call to be made. The standard version of the service operates via a PC; the new followus.mobi portal means it can also work from the majority of up-to-date handsets.
“We believe adapting our mapping service so that it can be accessed via a mobile will deliver increased peace of mind to all our customers” commented Kevin Brown, Commercial Director of FollowUs. He called the new development “a significant step forward for the business transforming FollowUs into a truly anywhere, anytime service that is fully in tune with the needs of our customers”.
FollowUs operates an easy-to-understand pay-as-you-go pricing structure with no long-term contracts and no automatic debiting. It is compatible with mobile handsets on all the major UK networks except 3 – and negotiations are apparently in progress there.
The service topped 70,000 subscribers last Autumn, following its launch earlier in the year.
