With Ovum predicting that A2P messaging traffic will total 2.2 trillion messages by 2017, and A2P SMS revenue predicted to surpass traditional P2P SMS in 2015, MNO’s are not realising the full revenue potential associated with this market growth. The offering of business focused Managed SMS and monetisation services draws on Anam’s knowledge and experience within the SMS and telecommunications industry to provide services that will enable operators to release untapped revenue from A2P SMS as well as circumventing preventable cost of SMS Spam. The services can be used in conjunction with an MNO’s existing filtering technology or combined with Anam’s SMS Firewall.
The Managed Service offering is already being successfully utilised by the Digicel Group, the largest mobile telecommunications operator in the Caribbean with operations in 31 markets across the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific, to protect subscribers against SMS Spam and to ensure the correct billing of A2P SMS’s whilst protecting existing and generating additional revenue. Speaking on the success of the project, Andy Thorburn, Chief Operating Officer of Digicel Group, said “We are already reaping rewards from Anam’s direct cooperative approach with our local markets - the job of identifying A2P grey route traffic and converting them into revenue streams is an onerous one. In Anam we have found a first class partner who, because of their knowledge and understanding of the MNO & A2P business landscapes, can deliver rapid results with minimal organisational overhead.”
To support the launch of the Managed SMS Service offering, Anam has appointed Hugh Carberry as Senior Commercial Analyst to the Managed Services Team. Prior to joining Anam, Hugh spent more than 10 years at Telefonica O2 where his responsibilities included interconnect reconciliation and billing, Premium SMS billing and settlement, Direct Carrier billing and A2P SMS billing. In his role at Anam, Hugh will be utilising his first-hand operator experience to advise on the operational and budgetary challenges faced by Mobile Operators today so Anam’s services are developed in-line with current and future market expectations.
Brian D’Arcy, Chief Commercial Officer at Anam, said: “The development of the Managed SMS Services is designed to address some of the biggest challenges facing mobile operators. They are unable to reap the rewards of the growth in the A2P SMS market due to traffic terminating on their network without their knowledge so they cannot bill for it, and their subscribers are receiving spam. In order to leverage the benefit of A2P revenue monetisation mobile operators need a combination of technical, industry and commercial know how. That is what Anam brings to the table.,”
He continued: “Through our Managed service team we will work with operators facing this conundrum by utilising the decades of experience in-house at Anam to manage the process for them. The Anam team have worked at the coal face in many of the biggest operators and it is this unrivalled understanding of the market and the players that enables us offer practical advice and guidance to manage the monetisation process for them. As the market continues to grow, we will be working to develop and add new offerings to our Managed SMS Service portfolio so customers can not only protect their revenues but ensure the security of its network with our SS7 Firewall.”
