Among them, one of the most influential and recognisable names in the region, Andy Burnham, Mayor for Greater Manchester (pictured above, left), will be appearing in a Day 1 Mayors session voicing the public sector’s own digital transformation and agenda to enable full ubiquitous connectivity across the North.
Also joining the speaker line-up from the region’s local authorities are Tracy Brabin, Metro Mayor at West Yorkshire Combined Authority (pictured above, right), and Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of Liverpool City Region Combined.
A brand-new sister event to the UK’s leading Connected Britain, Connected North will explore the fundamental challenges of Levelling-Up for the North of the UK in addressing digital infrastructure that underpins the North’s digital economy and prosperity.
Advanced connectivity is a cornerstone of society that facilitates higher levels of employment, better education, and social development. Amid a pandemic, this has also normalised a culture of remote, home-working that has increased demand on operators to continually advance new 5G-technologies and provide high-quality services and consumer solutions.
Connected North maintains the interests of the entire connectivity ecosystem in protecting digital inclusion and preventing disadvantage among communities in rural areas of the North, as well as driving forward smart places and industries.
The Mayors’ Panel will focus on:
- What will be the impact of the levelling up agenda on Northern authorities in their quest for social and economic growth?
- How can improving the digital infrastructure increase global competitiveness and encourage inward investment for the North?
- How are the North’s public and private sectors using digital connectivity to improve quality of life for residents and increase efficiency for businesses?
- Discuss tackling digital exclusion as a key issue for the region to improve access to essential services and allow residents to take advantage of all the opportunities connectivity provides.
