The new network is part of Colt’s investment strategy of growing its existing infrastructure and creating new long distance routes to address customer demand for highly available connectivity to key European business centres. Further new routes will be launched in the Iberian Peninsula, Northern Europe and the Netherlands later this year. The network expansions will help address European organisations’ infrastructure concerns, as 8 in 10 admitted that their current network won’t meet their business needs in two years’ time in the Tech Deficit research study.
The Dublin to London route via Manchester follows the launch of Colt’s low latency route from Dublin to London via Birmingham. This latest expansion completes a network ring that links the two capital cities and connects hundreds of Ireland-based companies in the financial services, media and retail sectors to over 195 European cities. It connects Colt’s customers to all major business parks in Dublin, 20 data centres in and around the city, and provides fibre access to over 250 buildings.
Mark Pilkington, Head of Transmissions and Operations at Setanta Sports, said: “Having been a Colt customer for several years, Setanta has had the opportunity to see the development and improvement in local, national and international network services. The addition of high speed capacity in Dublin, coupled with complete network diversity to London and beyond, maintains Colt as one of our primary service providers and will ensure that we are well placed to optimise their improved service provision in meeting our own customer demands.”
“With half of the world’s top banks in Ireland, we’re seeing an increasing demand for high bandwidth connectivity, driven by the move to cloud services and the mission critical nature of data in the digital economy,” said François Eloy, Executive Vice President, Network Services, at Colt. “Our aim is to be the first choice for businesses in Europe. Our continued pan-European network investments provide our customers with unparalleled reach and world class infrastructure, thereby meeting their needs today and in the future.”
