BT's announcement today to create over 1000 quality apprenticeships and graduate jobs for unemployed young people was welcomed today by the CWU.
The company plans to hire 300 graduates with science, technology and business backgrounds and 730 apprenticeships for school and college leavers to work in areas including engineering, software design, IT support, finance and logistics.
Andy Kerr, CWU deputy general secretary said: “This is good news from the UK’s largest Telecoms and IT company and represents a very significant commitment and investment both for BT and for the country. We welcome these job opportunities for graduates and young people with qualifications who will be trained in engineering, software design, IT and digital media.
"We are also delighted that BT have pledged to provide up to 1500 vocational training and work experience placements for out of work youngsters. The CWU will work closely with the company on this with a view to ensuring as many of these young people as possible are given the opportunity for a permanent role within the company”.
