Free internet access points at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will ensure that no-one misses out on European football’s end-of-season showpiece.
The move means that TV coverage of Spanish giants Real Madrid versus Italy’s Juventus tomorrow (Saturday) will be streamed via the internet to connected devices in public areas throughout the hospital.
Daisy Group already supports a wide range of technology at the Trust, from telephony to digital data management.
1,700+ WiFi access points in wards, offices and public spaces will ensure demand for live footage of the match is satisfied. And – to make certain no-one misses a single kick – Daisy engineers will be on hand at the Cardiff site to ensure an uninterrupted connection.
Andy Smith, Account Director at Daisy Group said, “We know that many of the hospital’s patients, visitors and staff are football fans and will not want to miss this season finale. The Health Board is a huge believer in the power of digital technology and the opportunities it presents to not only improve levels of treatment, but also to make being in hospital easier. It is taking steps to ensure that everyone will be able to log on and stream the game live from the TV to their bedside monitor, laptop, tablet or phone. As you can imagine, demand is likely to be very high so we have made sure that we are providing the relevant support to the process.”
Dr Fiona Jenkins, IT Lead and Executive Director of Therapies and Health Sciences for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said, “Enabling our patients to feel part of the excitement that the Champions League is bringing to Cardiff is fantastic. It is the largest sporting event ever hosted in Wales and we know that our patients benefit hugely from connecting with their family and friends online through sport. As health professionals we also recognise the health benefits of watching and participating in sport is huge in improving physical and mental health wellbeing. We want our patients to have the best experience possible when they are treated at our hospitals. Using the digital technology available to us means that no-one has to miss out on watching the final live and for many, in the comfort of their own bed.
“The free WiFi is provided to the Health Board through our Cardiff and Vale Health Charity as it feels strongly that this significantly improves the time someone spends in hospital and aids their recovery. I am delighted that so many partners have got involved and I would like to thank them for providing the best technological digital solution for our patients.”
