The cross-license agreement covers sales of network infrastructure and handsets from January 1, 2021. The two companies will also cooperate on projects to create valuable solutions for consumers and enterprises, as well as progressing open standardisation efforts.
Christina Petersson, chief intellectual property officer at Ericsson said, “We are delighted to sign a mutually beneficial agreement with Samsung. This important deal confirms the value of our patent portfolio and further illustrates Ericsson’s commitment to FRAND principles.”
In March, Samsung also came to an agreement with Nokia to license patents covering Nokia’s innovations in video standards. Similarly, the companies did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement but did clarify that Samsung will make royalty payments to Nokia.
