Now in its seventh incarnation, the theme for this year’s event was ‘Let’s Grow Together’. At the summit, Huawei took the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to the UK, outline its strategy across its various partnership programmes and also discuss its insights into opportunities in the country. Attendees included suppliers, eco-system partners, key customers, analysts and members of the media.
Dr. Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei Board, spoke at the Huawei UK Partner Summit 2019, offering his insights into ICT trends and opportunities.
In his remarks, Liang Hua noted that digitalization is entering a new phase of growth that will make the benefits of digital, connectivity, and intelligence accessible to everyone, "Huawei plays an important role in providing ICT infrastructure and smart devices," he said.
Liang Hua also noted the UK government's pledge to make the UK a world leader in 5G, and provide reliable, high-speed connectivity to towns, cities and rural areas, and national coverage of full-fiber networks. Noting that "there is a lot Huawei can contribute to this", Liang Hua commented, "We are in a leading position for 5G. We participated in the UK government's 5G trials and are ready to support our customers' commercial 5G launches in the UK. We are supporting the national rollout of Fibre-To-The-Premises (FTTP) technology in the country. We also have competitive and innovative solutions for connecting hard-to-reach areas."
At the summit, Huawei also announced plans to open a new training centre. The facility, which will be located in Birmingham, aims to develop and train engineers on the use of 5G technology and solutions. Huawei today signed MoUs with four of the company’s key engineering partners in the UK to support the skills development of their employees. The centre will have the capacity to train more than 500 engineers a year and is due to open in June.
Jerry Wang, CEO, Huawei UK said: “The partner summit is a great opportunity for us to say thank you to our valued UK supply chain. We are grateful for the many resilient and fruitful relationships that we have forged with our suppliers and partners over the last 18 years in the UK. Their expertise, knowledge and quality of service, have greatly aided Huawei in delivering to our customers here. We look forward to continuing to grow and develop our key existing relationships, whilst also fostering fresh opportunities in the future.”
