The 40G wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transport solution will substantially increase China Unicom’s network capacity and enable it to meet the increasing demand for high bandwidth broadband from China’s business and residential customers using new multimedia services.
Huawei’s 40G WDM solution is four times faster than most current transport data rates and can achieve ultra-long haul transport without electrical regeneration. This reduces investment costs and enables efficient and scalable deployments in countries like China where dense urban centres are often separated by vast distances.
The 40G WDM system adopts Huawei’s unique C-band extension technology, which increases the fibre transport bandwidth by an extra 20% and enables transport capacity of 3.84T, the largest in the industry. It also provides comprehensive encoding technologies and cost effective services across different application scenarios.
Huawei has also successfully commercialised its 40G WDM products in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. Huawei has also deployed the longest 40G trunk in the world without using electrical regenerators. That trunk is 1,141kms and runs from Moscow to St. Petersburg without any need for electric regeneration.
