New research reveals data protection opportunities

New research from Veeam has revealed that 89 per cent of organisations have identified a gap in their data protection strategies for 2022. In addition, over three quarters of organisations had at least one ransomware attack last year, with over a third saying their data is unrecoverable after a cyberattack.

The vendor surveyed over 3,000 IT leaders about their IT and data protections strategies, including their plans for 2022, with the report offering channel companies insights that will help them guide customers through their options.

Alex Walsh, channel and alliances director for the UK and Ireland, Veeam Software, explained, “The number of applications that organisations are considering mission-critical is increasing every day. As their reliance on digital technologies increases, so does the accompanying impact of cybersecurity threats. What’s more, as our research shows, there’s a clear disconnect between business expectations and IT’s ability to meet them.

“79 per cent of UK organisations persist in having a wide gap between the availability expected, and how quickly IT can return the business to productivity, hardly a surprise when 79 per cent of UK respondents said they've a protection gap between how much data they can afford to lose after an outage and how frequently data is backed up. As information is the lifeblood of any organisation, businesses are in a perilous situation and need to find ways to address these challenges. Modern businesses are reliant upon data need modern data protection solutions.”

The report underlined the opportunities available to the Channel. Almost 90 per cent of organisations said they will increase data protection budgets in 2022, with data protection resources allocated more than general IT.

Walsh added, “Whilst things cannot be resolved overnight for many, one way to fast-track the process is to work with skilled partners that are well versed in the specific solutions needed by their customers. In a world where as many as 30 per cent of organisations are leveraging multiple data centres for self-managed backup and disaster recovery, according to our research, there is a real need to build and fine tune strategies that work across all platforms, workloads and locations.

“All of this acts as a driver to find the right channel partners to help define the future data protection strategy of those customers. The hands-on experience that channel partners gain from working with customers and the unique insights that they have from speaking with their customers every day, means that they are in a great position to advise, recommend and support on those needs.”
