Nine Group raise £20k to help young people

A team of employees from communications business, Nine Group, has won a competition by raising £20,000 for youth charity The Prince’s Trust.

The team of employees, based in Gloucestershire, took part in The Prince’s Trust Million Makers challenge, beating other teams across the South West to raise the most cash in the region.

The challenge takes place between businesses throughout the UK with up to 100 teams going head-to-head and aiming to raise a total of £1million.

The Nine Group team organised several events to raise the money. This included events such as an art exhibition with local artists work on sale, a fancy dress Friday at work, a treasure hunt around the five valleys of Gloucestershire and a grand Christmas raffle, which raised more than £4,500 on its own.

Staff members also took part in the London Triathlon and donated the money they raised to The Trust.

After six months of fundraising, the winning team was announced at Merchants Hall in Bristol on the 7th February. The awards were presented by The Lord-Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol Mary Prior.

Higo Insurance Group also entered a team into the Million Makers challenge and raised more than £7,000.

Director Helen Chamberlain, from Nine Group, said: “Our staff members were extremely dedicated trying to raise money for The Trust and we couldn’t have done it without the support of so many people. Without the combined efforts of the team, our customers, the local community and support from local businesses we wouldn’t have reached nearly as much.

“Taking part in The Prince’s Trust Million Makers challenge has been such an amazing experience and we have all learnt a lot about ourselves and each other as a result.”

The Prince’s Trust Million Makers fundraiser challenges teams to turn a small amount of money into thousands of pounds by setting up mini-enterprises.

Money raised from the challenge goes towards supporting disadvantaged young people across the South West, giving them the skills and confidence to find a job. Three in four young people helped by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training.
