SSL VPN Gateway Revenue to More than Double 2006 to 2010

Worldwide network security appliance and software revenue is up 3% in 3Q07 to top $1.3 billion, following an 8% increase the previous quarter, according to Infonetics Research’s quarterly Network Security Appliances and Software report.

The SSL VPN gateway segment is fairing particularly well, with worldwide manufacturer revenue forecast to more than double between 2006 and 2010, the report shows.

“The top 3 vendors—Cisco, Juniper, and Check Point—posted moderate gains in the third quarter, a typically quiet quarter, with many companies putting off spending until the fourth quarter budget flush,” said Jeff Wilson principal analyst for network security at Infonetics Research. “For the next few years, we expect high growth (greater than 10% quarter over quarter) in network security appliance spending to come from SSL VPN, in-line IDS/IPS, NAC, and content security products.”

Other highlights from the report:

Worldwide network security appliance and software sales are forecast by Infonetics Research to hit $5.7 billion in 2010

Secure router sales are expected to be up 40% from 2006 to 2007

In the over $30,000 integrated security appliance market, a tight market share race continues between Cisco and Juniper; Juniper holds the lead for the third quarter in a row, and there remains opportunity for new vendors to shake up this segment
