Telefónica strengthens its cloud portfolio with the global launch of Instant Servers

Today marks the global launch by Telefónica Digital of Instant Servers, a service that enables the acquisition of virtual servers on demand, enabling developers and businesses of any size to manage their own servers instantaneously via a website (cloud.telefonica.com/instantservers).

Instant Servers incorporates advanced technology from Joyent, a leader in cloud services, which allows customers to configure the size of their virtual server in terms of RAM memory, CPU and hard drive. Instant Servers also offers a great variety of Operating Systems (SmartOS, Ubuntu, CentOS, Windows Server, Fedora and Debian) and preconfigured applications based on SmartOS. The service is provided from Telefónica’s enterprise-grade data centres, built in accordance with the very highest security standards and connected to Telefónica’s fibre optic network, which provides high access speed and low latency.

Customers will be able to acquire, manage, monitor and control their virtual servers quickly and simply via the http://cloud.telefonica.com/instantservers/ website at all times. They can also acquire new servers of the size, operating system and applications they want, delete the servers they no longer need and manage the capacity of any SmartOS server or application in accordance with the demand specified at any given time without having to reboot or disconnect the server and without any additional cost.

Instant Servers offers the unique ability to ‘burst’ computing power by up to 400% in real time to handle spikes in demand. It also offers absolute data integrity and reliability thanks to the exclusive use of Joyent’s SmartDataCentre software, the only cloud management software that uses ZFS, an enterprise grade file system.

Customers will benefit from the reassurance of a service level agreement (SLA) of 99.996% per year backed by financial compensation in the event of non-compliance. Instant Servers also delivers superior return on investment, allowing customers to serve more users per virtual machine when compared to other public cloud services.

Carlos Morales, Telefónica Digital’s Cloud and M2M Director, points out: “With the launch of Instant Servers Telefónica Digital seeks to meet the needs of thousands of businesses that require a cloud services platform that is easily scalable, with low latency and totally trustworthy, enabling them not only to rapidly respond to their own needs, but also to the expectations of their customers. This can all be done with significant cost savings as customers only pay for the type of cloud services they require and the time they use them for”.

Instant Servers is the first Telefónica trademark product to be sold directly to companies over the Internet on a worldwide basis. It joins a number of services that Telefónica Digital is marketing directly to customers, including TU Me, a free communications app, and Telefónica Dynamic Insights, a new unit created to open up opportunities presented by Big Data.
