Venus Supports Science Navigation Group’s Move to Cloud

Web-based scientific publisher Science Navigation Group has moved to the cloud using Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Science Navigation Group’s move to cloud computing is bringing a range of business benefits. “Cloud saves us money. We do not have to own and maintain racks of servers and we can ramp up our processing power by firing up more servers at just seconds’ notice.” explains Tim Hyde-Smith, IT Director.

The move to cloud is being supported by Venus Business Communications. As an AWS Direct Connect partner, they provide a direct connection to cloud computing power using the Venus Dark Fibre Network to access the Amazon AWS platform. “Our AWS direct connect service provides a solution for businesses with lightning fast data transfer at a fifth of the Internet–based cost,” said Brian Iddon, Director.

“The Venus AWS Direct Connect service now gives me much more cost effective data transfer rates than accessing AWS through the public internet, it also gives me better, more reliable, connectivity,” confirms Tim Hyde-Smith.

Improved reliable connectivity comes from dictating the route that data travels to and from a business to the AWS servers. “Venus AWS Direct Connect removes the potentially high hop count associated with public internet. Every hop adds the potential for delay to data and security issues. Venus’ AWS Direct solution eliminates the need for VPNs and expensive hardware that encrypt data for secure transfer.

“We have confidence in the reliability and security of the high speed fibre network and direct connection to AWS from Venus that saves us money. When I looked at how cost-effective this IT solution was it just made perfect business sense. Within two days I was connected,” concludes Tim Hyde-Smith.
