Virgin Media O2 rolls out broadband to 11,000 more Huddersfield premises

Customers in area can now receive Gig2 broadband service.

Virgin Media O2 has rolled out its gigabit broadband services to 11,000 more premises in Huddersfield.

Customers in Huddersfield can now sign-up to services including Gig2 broadband.

Councillor Graham Turner, Cabinet member for finance and regeneration at Kirklees Council, said, “This is a huge step forward for our digital connectivity. Over the last few years, we know more people than ever before are working from home, gaming online and using streaming services every day. As we all conduct more of our lives online, digital connectivity becomes a crucial part of the infrastructure to support our modern lives.

“That’s why we’re currently investing in digital connectivity, for years we have been committed to making Kirklees one of the most digitally connected councils and will continue to work with organisations like Virgin Media, to increase high speed digital connectivity and bring better broadband to more people who live and work in the district. With this latest work, 11,000 more people in Huddersfield can now benefit from fibre broadband – which could be up to twenty-one times faster than the current local average.

“This is fantastic news, and our work as a council is far from done – we’re going to continue working with digital infrastructure providers to bring gigabit speeds to more people across Kirklees in the near future."

Julie Agnew, managing director of fixed network expansion at Virgin Media O2, said, “11,000 more homes in Huddersfield can now feel the benefit of Virgin Media’s services – with packages that include everything from next generation multigigabit broadband to easy-to-use TV streaming and entertainment services.

“These ultrareliable full fibre to the home broadband connections come with speeds – up to 21 times faster than local average – providing total peace of mind that whatever you’re doing online, you’ll never be slowed down by your service.”

Rajiv Datta, CEO at nexfibre, said, “nexfibre’s multi-million pound investment in Huddersfield will enable thousands of households to access the benefits of full fibre broadband, including being able to participate in the local economy and connect with the community. It marks a significant step on our journey to connect 5 million premises by 2026.”
