Phil Smith, fresh from his BT 21CN success when he was Managing Director of Cisco’s BT operation, has been promoted to VP to head up the Emerging Technologies operation, including marketing, analyst relations and PR for Europe.
As such he is the man that Chris Dedicoat, Cisco President for Europe, has entrusted with Cisco’s push into IP Communications, Wireless, Security and Storage markets where the networking company has so far failed to establish the dominant market share it has in routing and LAN switching.
Smith, a long time Cisco veteran, is widely considered to be one of the “deep thinkers” within the networking industry”.
Clive Sawkins, Cisco’s MD IP Communications Division EMEA, confirmed both the new role and that he would be reporting to Smith saying, “Phil is a great guy who is really into the technology. I look forward to working with him.”
