The NetEvents European Press Summit attended by Comms Business Magazine last week had a strong emphasis on the near future – beginning with guest speaker Mike Tighe’s presentation “Re-engineering Telco Business Models for Profitability”.
Tighe, Director of Strategy and Development for Verizon Business, outlined a survey of global communication trends and their impact on carriers.
“Historically service provision has been organised around technologies and geographic location, the need now is to organise around customer segments and their needs to leverage a common IP backbone with wireline and wireless access.”
Tighe challenged the telcos traditional strength in R&D with a suggestion that there is now a greater role for “cultural anthropologists” to drive services innovation. In a detailed presentation he spelled out the need for a new business model leading from network services provider to services integrator.”
